John Whittalljoined Innovate UK in September 2007 and led the Resource Efficiency programme there for 6 years. He joined the Sustainable Agrifood Innovation Platform in August 2013 and has been involved in the delivery of the AgriTech Catalyst as well as thematic call for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships in the Agrifood Supply Chain.
John's background is in chemistry; after completing a PhD in chemistry at Imperial College, London he worked for two years a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratories of Professor Leon Ghosez at the Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium on synthetic methods for next generation antibiotics. On returning to the UK, he joined the Business Research Group, where he conducted and managed a range of industrial market/techno-commercial studies primarily for clients in the chemical industry. In 2002 he joined the Crystal Faraday Partnership, an organisation promoting the uptake of green chemical technologies, which subsequently became part of the Knowledge Transfer Network.
